The Bonsall Red Barrows were formed in 2009 from volunteers who live in or near the Derbyshire village to support our local carnival. Initially performing our Red Barrow display, success at local carnivals led to developing a display involving Pantomime Horses.

2011 saw us expand our routines to include the Royal Horse Trials and a host of carnivals welcomed us along.

2012 was a busy and successful year starting with the Horse Trials at Breaston Gala, Nottingham. This was followed with both the Red Barrows and Horse Trials at the Bearded Theory Festival at Kedleston Hall, near Derby, where we ended up the opening act in front of the main stage on both the Saturday and Sunday.

A new Red Barrows display was launched at the Dunnington Carnival, near York, which then raised a storm at Bonsall Carnival including the arrival of a barrow on a zip wire to get us going. Our last outing was at a charity fundraiser for SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal death) on Cromford Meadows accompanied by one of the Battle of Britain Spitfires providing a flypast.

2013 saw the launch of the new Jousting Display –  Celebrating  Great English Eccentricity at the Derby St George’s Day Party started the season off, full details on Jousting Page. The knights performed at Bearded Theory in the sun, and ended up with very rusty armour at the Long Eaton Carnival in rather challenging weather.

We had great radio coverage of the Barrows at Bearded Theory and took them to Breaston Gala and Birchover Carnival with great results. Lichfield Cars in the Park was fun and sunny but a little too quiet – though Mike on the mic responded brilliantly to this baptism of fire and steered us through the event with great aplomb!

Tom and Leanne invited us to perform at their wedding where we launched new additions to the routine – well any excuse really to hoover with the help of Freddie Mercury. The grand finale to the season was our opportunity to perform at RAF Scampton and we hope the special page above captures the event sufficiently – See you next year.
